Pirates use key pins to down Pelicans

PHOENIX — Trailing by 11 points with just three matches remaining, the Phoenix wrestling team needed a strong finish if it was to dispatch Klamath Union on Wednesday.

Three pins later, the Pirates were 37-30 winners over the Pelicans in the close Skyline Conference dual meet opener.

Freshman Kyle Bradfield defeated Scott Hanseth by fall in the final bout of the night at 140 pounds, securing the win for Phoenix. Bradfield trailed 4-1 at one point but maintained his composure, Phoenix head coach John Farmer said.

"In the third round he kept coming and coming and he could see the other kid was getting tired," Farmer said. "There was a lot of pressure for a freshman in his first dual meet at home, but he got the job done."
