Siliga paves way for Cascade Christian

MURPHY — Junior point guard Davis Siliga caught fire in the fourth quarter as Cascade Christian's boys basketball team defeated Hidden Valley in nonconference action Saturday.

Siliga scored 12 of his 17 points in the final frame to rally the Class 3A Challengers to a 58-55 victory over Class 4A host Hidden Valley, which led by five points heading into the final eight minutes.

"Davis in the fourth quarter was just crazy," said Cascade Christian coach Brian Morse. "He was weaving in between people for circus layups and attacking real well."

Eric Morse added eight rebounds and 14 points on the strength of a 4-for-5 showing from 3-point range to help propel the Challengers (6-5), who have won four of their last five games. Addison Smith chipped in with 12 points.

Braden Monnet scored 18 points to lead the Mustangs (5-8), with Kaleb Krauss adding 12 and Kyle Garrison 11.

"They put a little more pressure on us in the fourth quarter and we didn't quite respond to it," said Hidden Valley coach Jeff Huston.

Another benefit for the Challengers was the fact that Hidden Valley got into foul trouble early in the second half and that led to a double-bonus situation at the free-throw line down the stretch. Cascade Christian went 8-for-10 from the line in the fourth, including 6-for-6 by Siliga.

"I think we got a little bit tight in the second half and defensively we started to over rotate and allowed way too much dribble penetration, which hurt us," said Huston.
