Knights drub Chiefs in opener

ROGUE RIVER — Rogue River's bats were relatively silent Monday as North Valley's Joel Shippy assumed control early on the mound during season-opening play in nonconference baseball.

The Class 3A Chieftains managed just three hits against the Knights' pitching staff, allowing North Valley to claim a 12-0 victory at Rogue River High School.

In just three innings of work, Shippy accounted for seven of North Valley's 11 strikeouts.

The Knights were also backed by three home runs — one apiece from John Parker, Steve Parker and Nick Tedero.

NORTH VALLEY 13, ROGUE RIVER 8 — At Merlin, fueled by Amber Green's two-run home run, North Valley was able to overcome an error-riddled debut.

North Valley catcher Kendra Peckham went 3-for-4, drove in three runs and scored three times. Kenzie Schmoll also scored three runs on a 2-for-2 outing to go with a pair of RBIs.

RIDDLE 6, BUTTE FALLS 0 — At Riddle, Stephanie Maurer pitched the shutout and belted a bases-clearing double in the fifth as Riddle prevailed in the season opener for both teams.

Mariah Moore struck out nine and walked two but was victimized by a pair of key Butte Falls errors. Butte Falls' Jessica Driskell was 2-for-3.
