Ashland QB White to appear in Sports Illustrated
Ashland High quarterback Danial White's performance in the Pacific Rim Bowl has earned him a little face time in one of the nation's premier sports magazines.
Two weeks after torching Japan in his first varsity start, White will appear in the "Faces in the Crowd" column of today's edition of Sports Illustrated. The column features several athletes, a brief summary of what they accomplished and a head shot of each.
"I was pretty surprised and excited," said White, who was told by Ashland head coach Charlie Hall during a recent team meeting.
White led the Grizzlies to a 26-0 rout of the Japan all-stars, July 29 at Phillips Field.
According to an SI representative, the clip will read: "Danial, a sophomore quarterback playing in his varsity debut for Ashland High, completed 19 of 23 passes for 173 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 39 yards to lead the Grizzlies to their first win after five straight losses against the Japan All-Star team in the Pacific Rim Bowl. The biennial game, established in 1988, is alternately played in Oregon and Osaka, Japan."
