Challengers pull away from Chieftains

Cascade Christian's Katie Aguilar had 19 points and seven rebounds and the Challengers used a big third-quarter surge to dispatch Rogue River 51-42 in Southern Cascade Hybrid action at Cascade Christian High on Friday.

Kelsey Cochran offered up 15 points, nine rebounds and five assists and Jordan Martinez added 12 points for the Challengers (10-7, 1-0 SCH), who trailed 25-24 at halftime before orchestrating a 17-8 run in the third.

"We turned it up a notch on defense," Cascade Christian head coach Marvin Denman said.

Alli Ehrhardt recorded 23 points for the Chieftains, who got as close as three points with about three minutes left in the game. She buried two of her three 3-pointers and poured in 14 of her points during Rogue River's 21-point second quarter.

Emma Angeletti scored eight points and Ehrhardt added nine rebounds for the Chieftains (10-5, 1-1 SCH).

"It was a good game," Denman said. "We thought it would be a battle, and this was every bit that we thought it would be."

ST. MARY'S 78, LAKEVIEW 49 — Emily Alvarez scored 20 points and her sister Rose Alvarez tallied 17 as St. Mary's took care of Lakeview early at St. Mary's High School.

Sophomore Emily Alvarez also drained four 3-pointers and had five assists and three steals, while freshman Rose Alvarez followed with a 7-for-8 effort from the field.

Nina Console added 11 points for the Crusaders (11-4, 1-1 SCH), who owned a 26-3 advantage after one quarter.

BONANZA 46, ILLINOIS VALLEY 40 — At Bonanza, Thea Barker-Cortecht and Alex LaFlamme each scored nine points in a losing effort for Illinois Valley.

The Cougars (2-11) hurt their cause from the foul line, connecting on just 6 of 24.

Josie Stickel and Bailey Hammerich combined for 17 points for Bonanza, which made 10-of-16 free throws in the final period to pull away.

PHOENIX 50, NORTH VALLEY 45 — At Merlin, Kasey Hamilton had 14 points and Baylee Toney added 11 points and nine rebounds to lead Phoenix to the victory.

The Pirates (6-7, 1-2 Skyline) trailed 37-35 heading into the fourth quarter, then rallied for the advantage and secured the win by going 5-for-10 from the foul line in a contest where they were 6-for-21 overall.

Kenzie Schmoll had 11 points, five rebounds and four assists and Kasey Werner added 10 points and six rebounds for the Knights.
