Crater gets its revenge against Eagles

EAGLE POINT — The Crater wrestling team avenged an earlier loss to Eagle Point with a 34-31 nonleague dual triumph on Wednesday night.

Eagle Point defeated Crater, 37-25, at the Crater Classic last Saturday.

The Eagles' Hunter Hoeptner kicked things off by pinning Tommy Winningham in 3 minutes, 16 seconds in the 160-pound match. But after that, the Comets rattled off five straight wins, with Jerry DeLaFuente (170), Cavin Gillispie (182) and Micah Walker (195) all earning decisions, Wally Pendleton (220) gaining a victory via forfeit and Mike Rios (285) pinning Anthony Valdovinos in 57 seconds.

Crater's Luke Mackey (113) and Walter Kurz (120) earned decisions and Nate Walters (138) won by fall in 3:39.

For the Eagles, Mikey Johnson (106), Levi Pomeroy (126) and Eddie Perez-Rivera (132) pinned their opponents and teammates Kaden Crandall (145) and James McCoy (152) picked up decisions.

Swimming

PANTHERS PREVAIL — At Ashland, the South Medford boys and Ashland girls came away victorious in a three-way meet at the Southern Oregon University pool.

In boys swimming, the Panthers beat Ashland, 126-101, and Cascade Christian, 150-30. In girls, Ashland beat South Medford, 121-99, and Cascade Christian, 138-55.

South's John Henry Gaffney won the 50-meter freestyle in 24.53 seconds and helped the Panthers win two of the three relay races, the 200 medley relay (2:07.45) and the 200 free relay (1:48.12).

In girls action, Cascade Christian's Breanna Sapienza won both the 100 free (53.30) and the 200 IM (2:12.76).
