Perry pitches Panthers past Pels

KLAMATH FALLS — Jake Perry's arm was the only thing that stayed warm when chilly winds and rainy conditions made playing baseball at Klamath Union High miserable Thursday.

Perry pitched a two-hitter for South Medford, which claimed a 5-1 nonconference victory in the make-up game.

That rough first inning began when Perry hit a batter. He later surrendered a two-out, unearned run to the Pelicans following one of the Panthers' two first-inning errors.

Things tightened from there for Perry, who threw all seven innings and allowed just two hits and one walk to go with seven strikeouts. The Panthers (9-4) also picked things up by playing spotless defense the rest of the way.

The Pelicans (2-8-1) led 1-0 until the Panthers took control with three runs in the top of the fourth. South added two more in the sixth.

Austin White went 2-for-2, drove in a run and scored for the Panthers, and Brady Breeze finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and a pair of stolen bases.
