Grizzlies storm back to beat Roseburg in extras

ASHLAND — The Ashland High baseball team trailed Roseburg by three runs entering the seventh inning. In other words, the Grizzlies had the Indians right where they wanted them.

Ashland scored three runs in the seventh to send the game into extra innings then completed the comeback with a bases-loaded walk in the eighth as the Grizzlies pulled out their second improbable rally of the season, 9-8, Thursday at North Mountain Park.

Ashland, which stormed back from a 6-3 seventh-inning deficit to stun Henley three weeks ago, stretched its winning streak to 10 games counting a forfeit by Eagle Point and now has two wins over traditional 6A powers — Crater on April 10, and now Roseburg.

Against the Indians (6-7), Ashland briefly took a 3-2 lead in the third before Roseburg scored four in the fourth and two in the sixth to go up 8-3. The Grizzlies cut into the lead by scoring two in the sixth, but still trailed 8-5 heading into the bottom of the seventh.

But once again, Ashland was at its best in the clutch.

Eric Carlson was 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI, and Nick Sanderson 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run to lead Ashland at the plate.
