Tornado powers past Comets

CENTRAL POINT — North Medford's Alexis Barkwell and Sarah Thomas combined on a no-hit shutout and the Black Tornado cranked out 13 hits in a 14-0, five-inning win over Crater during Southern Oregon Hybrid action at Crater High Tuesday.

Barkwell, who improved to 11-1, recorded five strikeouts and one walk in three innings before Thomas finished things off.

Keisha Williams went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI and Tra Kucera was 2-for-3 with a two-run triple and RBI double for the Black Tornado, which jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

Janelle Rodgers finished 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI for North (13-1, 4-0 SOH), which has won 11 straight.

During the Tornado's big inning, Kucera had her triple and Katie Ramsay and Barkwell both added two-run doubles.

The Comets' Dana Lowder was hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the first and Alex Craft was walked with one out. Barkwell then induced two pop-ups.

Crater (3-12, 0-5) committed four errors and used three different pitchers.

GRANTS PASS 4, ROSEBURG 1 — At Grants Pass, Amy Robinson pitched a complete game for Grants Pass, allowing only two hits and one earned run with seven strikeouts in the SOH victory.

Dalenna Bellum was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Aleah Stevens 3-for-3 with two runs scored and Taylor Thomas 1-for-2 with two RBIs for Grants Pass (12-6, 5-2).

Jacey Conklin scored Roseburg's (10-7, 3-3) only run of the game when she hit a solo home run in the first inning.

EAGLE POINT 18, HIDDEN VALLEY 2, 5 inn. — At Eagle Point, Megan Ayres hit her second home run of the season and added an RBI single in the same inning as Eagle Point claimed the nonconference win.

Ayres' solo shot led off the third inning. The freshman was 3-for-4 with four RBIs.

Paige Leeper drove in four runs as well, including two on her only hit, a double in the third. Emily Jeffries and McKenzie Nielsen each had two hits for the Eagles (8-7).

PHOENIX 10, ASHLAND 0, 6 inn. — At Talent, Bailee Tally and Amanda Skaff were the big producers for Phoenix in the nonconference victory at Hagler-James Park.

Tally tossed a three-hit shutout with six strikeouts and collected three hits with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Skaff went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs. The Phoenix senior belted a two-run homer in the Pirates' (5-13) four-run third inning.

Emily Hayes went 2-for-2 for Ashland (3-11), including a fifth-inning double.

For the Challengers (0-12, 0-4 SCH), Alaina Thomson went 2-for-2 with a triple and four RBIs, Molli Campos 2-for-3 with an RBI and Allison McMahon 1-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Rachel Leal, Abbi Brooks and Brandi Larson all had three hits for the Honkers (8-5, 3-0).

ROGUE RIVER 16, ILLINOIS VALLEY 11 — At Cave Junction, Rogue River and Illinois Valley each had 14 hits in Southern Cascade League action that saw the Chieftains build a 13-6 lead before the Cougars scored five in the bottom of the fourth to draw within two.

Marina Rodriguez blasted a two-run home run and Courtney Hardy collected a double and a triple for Rogue River (4-7, 3-2 SCH).

Keyanna Augustadt had three hits and two RBIs and Chawna Crawford added three hits for Illinois Valley (4-11, 1-1).
