Grizzlies pick up overtime victory

EAGLE POINT — Ben Lucero booted in the go-ahead goal in overtime to lift Ashland to a 2-1 victory over Eagle Point during Midwestern League boys soccer action on Tuesday.

The victory kept the Grizzlies in a tie for first place in the MWL with Marist, which beat Churchill, 5-4, on Tuesday. Both squads have 4-1 conference records.

David Lehrburger assisted on Lucero’s goal around the 85th minute.

The Eagles (8-4-1, 2-3 MWL) struck first in the tough, defensive match, scoring in the 75th minute. Ashland (8-4 overall) tied things at 1-1 two minutes later when Lucas Golding cashed in on a pass from David Lee.

GRANTS PASS 1, ROSEBURG 0: At Roseburg, Kevin Luther scored the go-ahead goal in the fifth minute for Grants Pass during Southwest Conference action.

The victory sealed up second place in the SWC for the Cavemen (9-4-1, 6-3-1).

The Indians dropped to 0-11-3, 0-8-2 in league.


ROSEBURG 3, GRANTS PASS 1: At Grants Pass, Brooke Blacksmith scored for Grants Pass during Southwest Conference action.

Blacksmith’s goal came from 25 yards out for the Cavers (5-5-3, 3-4-2 SWC), who trailed Roseburg (5-8-1, 4-5-1) at halftime, 2-1.

ASHLAND 6, EAGLE POINT 0: At Ashland, Facie Graham had two goals and an assist and Jessica Harrower netted two goals for Ashland during Midwestern League action.

Maya Timmons and Ianthe Balbuena-Nedrow also scored for the Grizzlies (9-3-1, 3-2 MVL), who led 3-0 at halftime.

Samantha Lilley made two assists against Eagle Point (3-8-2, 0-4-1).

MAZAMA 5, PHOENIX 0: At Klamath Falls, Mazama led 3-0 at halftime en route to the Skyline Conference victory.

The Pirates dropped to 0-12 overall, 0-9 in league. The Vikings improved to 8-4, 6-3 Sky.
