Local teams earn academic recognition
Several local teams made the academic all-state list after registering grade point averages among the Top 10 in their classifications.
Teams that earned a 3.0 GPA or higher received 25 points for their school in The Oregonian Cup standings.
St. Mary’s led the way among Rogue Valley teams with six Top 10 programs. The Crusaders were first in volleyball (3.81), second in girls soccer (3.78), third in football (3.37) and boys soccer (3.69), fifth in girls cross country (3.90) and eighth in boys cross country (3.62).
North Medford had four Top 10 teams: football (3.44) and girls soccer (3.94) were first and volleyball (3.72) and boys cross country (3.86) third.
Cascade Christian football (3.35) and volleyball (3.79) were fourth and Challenger boys soccer (3.53) seventh.
South Medford football (3.27) was fifth and Panther girls cross country (3.91) fifth. Ashland boys cross country (3.69) was third and Grizzly boys soccer (3.33) fifth.
Other boys cross country teams in the Top 10 of their respective classifications were Phoenix (fourth, 3.70), Crater (seventh, 3.65) and Rogue River (ninth, 3.62).
The North Valley boys soccer team was 10th (3.29).
