Tally heats up, leads Phoenix win

PHOENIX — Senior Bailee Tally shook loose from a slow first quarter and finished with 22 points to help the host Phoenix girls basketball squad take care of Taft in the Phoenix Tournament on Thursday.

The seven-team event finishes on Saturday. The Pirates continue play against Del Norte today at 6 p.m.

Tally had registered just one point three minutes into the second quarter, but she then strung together three consecutive baskets, including two 3-pointers, to give the Pirates (2-1) a 26-14 halftime lead.

Tally added 10 points in the third quarter as the Phoenix yielded just two points to Taft.

“She was red-hot in the third,” said coach Randy Kirkland. “She and Alyssa (Wallack) played up front in our 2-3 zone and we turned a lot of turnovers into easy transition baskets.”

Tally drained all four Phoenix 3-pointers and added five steals. Wallack scored 11 points and Emma Hickman posted 14 points, 12 rebounds and six steals.
