Local soccer players make all-state teams

Four local soccer players picked up first-team honors recently in all-state balloting.

South Medford senior striker Brittany Jensen made the Class 6A girls first-team list, while Ashland senior left fullback Gabe Lehrburger earned 5A boys honors, Ashland senior Facie Graham 5A girls recognition and St. Mary’s junior midfielder MaryBeth Barnum 3A girls acclaim.

Jensen, the Southwest Conference player of the year, led the Panthers with 10 goals.

Lehrburger, the Midwestern League co-player of the year, helped hold Ashland opponents to one goal during a six-game winning streak after the Grizzlies started the season 0-3.

Graham, the MWL player of the year, led Ashland to a second-place finish in its first season in the seven-team league.

Barnum, the District 5 player of the year, recorded 10 goals and a team-best 15 assists while playing a crucial setup role for the Crusaders.

Locals who made the 6A second-team girls list were North Medford senior Halley Folsom and teammates Sydney Thomas (senior midfielder) and Hayley Haas (senior goalkeeper). South Medford senior midfielder Hannah Kapple also received second-team recognition. In 6A boys, Grants Pass senior Noah Heisser was selected to the second team.

In 4A boys, Phoenix senior defender Jorge Pinon and North Valley senior Trinidad Flores landed on the second team.

Three St. Mary’s girls made the 3A second-team list: senior defender Rose Alvarez, senior goalkeeper Viv Juncal and junior forward Emily Elmore.
