English boosts South Medford in tourney win

RED BLUFF — Cameron English scored 18 points to help the South Medford boys basketball take care of its first-round foe in the opening round of the Red Bluff Tournament at Red Bluff High School on Thursday.

The Panthers claimed an 80-34 victory over the school out of Redding, Calif., with an attendance size of under 100 students.

South Medford takes on Del Norte in the second round of the eight-team event today at 8:30 p.m.

English also tallied six rebounds, three blocks and a pair of steals while Kaleb Franklin came up with 14 points and three steals in limited action.

The Panthers (2-2) received eight points, nine assists, four rebounds and two steals from Eskari Carter, and Caleb Rayburn came off the bench to provide nine points, four rebounds and four assists.

Liberty Christian’s Joro Dimitov scored 17 points.

ASHLAND 54, HENLEY 47: At Ashland, Walker Shibley-Styer and Collin Malcolm spearheaded Ashland’s second-half surge as the Grizzlies won the nonconference game.

Shibley-Styer scored 14 points and Malcolm 12 to lead the Grizzlies (5-3), who used full-court pressure to steamroll Henley (4-2) in the third quarter. Jack Feinberg added 11 points for Ashland, which is off until its Jan. 2 Midwestern League opener against Marist.

CRATER 59, PHOENIX 25: At Phoenix, Race Reiter’s near triple-double helped Crater take down Phoenix at Phoenix High.

Reiter amassed 22 points, 10 rebounds and eight blocks for the Comets (4-1), who take on Santiam Christian today at 5:15 p.m. at Cascade Christian High. The Pirates (2-4) square off with host Cascade Christian at 8:45 p.m.

Taylor Kloke had 10 points and eight rebounds and Christian Reyes added 10 points for Crater, which came up with 11 steals as a team and committed 11 turnovers.

CASCADE CHRISTIAN 45, MAZAMA 36: At Cascade Christian, Chad Morse provided a spark off the bench for Cascade at the end of the first half when he scored eight straight points on three baskets to increase the Challengers’ lead from two points to 10 going into halftime.

Jason Wyncoop led all scorers with 17 points for Cascade Christian (4-1) and Brandon Winter contributed 10 points and eight rebounds for The Challengers.

Sophomore forward Trevor Haugen led RVA (7-1) with 15 points and 16 rebounds.

Jared Cumbee had 11 points and nine assists and Nathan James 11 points and eight rebounds for the Red Tail Hawks (7-1).
