South Medford downs Del Norte in Red Bluff tourney

RED BLUFF, Calif. — South Medford advanced to the finals of the Red Bluff Holiday Tournament with a workmanlike, 43-28 victory over Del Norte from Crescent City, Calif., in boys basketball Friday.

The Panthers (3-2) will face three-time defending tournament champion Lake Oswego (4-0) in today’s finals at 7:30 p.m. Lake Oswego was a 54-49 winner over Enterprise of Redding, Calif., in the other semifinal.

South Medford led 30-23 entering the final period, then outscored the Warriors 13-5 in the fourth.

Senior wing Craig Contreras paced the Panthers with 10 points.

South Medford posts Cameron English and Josh Washington combined for 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Kaleb Franklin, a freshman point guard, had six assists for South.

BANDON 54, ROGUE RIVER 46: At Rogue River, both teams traded big-point runs but Bandon managed to fight off Rogue River in the nonleague affair.

The Tigers opened with a 10-1 run, but the Chieftains managed to claw back and tie the game at 17 in the second quarter. Bandon, however, closed the half on a 15-2 run to pull ahead 32-19.

Jordan Ehrhardt guided Rogue River (3-4) with 13 points, four rebounds and two steals. Rio Lopez added nine points and five rebounds.

PROSPECT 44, RIDDLE 41: At Riddle, sophomore guard Baley VanWormer scored 23 points, including Prospect’s final four points, to rally the Cougars.

Prospect (3-4) trailed 41-40 with 35 seconds remaining when VanWormer scored on a putback then made a steal and drove for the winning basket with five seconds left.

Dakota Sizemore had seven rebounds and Marissa Raines added seven steals and six assists.
