Challengers’ late charge falls short

SALEM — The Cascade Christian boys basketball team stormed back after trailing by 16 points in the final quarter before ultimately falling to Valley Catholic, 44-42, at the Salem Academy Tournament at Salem Academy High on Thursday.

Christian Kammerzell and Brandon Winter had 13 points apiece and Jason Wyncoop added 10 points for the Challengers, who were behind 38-22 heading into the fourth.

Cascade Christian (5-5) — charged by the defensive efforts of Jake Booker — outscored Valley Catholic 20-6 in the last eight minutes, but couldn’t complete the rally.

Chad Morse finished with nine rebounds.

Kazuma Lane had 21 points for Valley Catholic (5-3).
