South Medford girls clinch SWC title

The South Medford offense went through Jasmin Falls and the Panthers rolled past visiting South Eugene 70-22 in Southwest Conference girls basketball Friday.

Top-ranked South Medford (20-4, 13-0 SWC) clinched its fifth straight conference championship and registered its 69th consecutive league win.

Falls and senior guard Keyari Sleezer, who finished with 18 points and six rebounds, each had eight points in the first quarter as the Panthers raced to a 30-4 lead.

"Jasmin did a good job of establishing a post presence," South Medford coach Tom Cole said. "When she drew a double team, she made some great kickout passes."

The Panthers built a commanding 47-9 halftime lead.

"We played great defense in the first half," said Cole. "We created a ton of turnovers.”

Julissa Tago turned in another impressive all-around performance for the Panthers. The junior wing scored 16 points, had eight assists and four steals.

The Panthers played without starting guard Andee Ritter, who sat out with a sore knee.

"We were really balanced and the team played unselfish," said Cole. "We constantly looked for the extra pass."
