North Medford boys fall in state quarterfinals
PORTLAND — Central Catholic used a 9-0 run to open the fourth quarter and break a 34-all tie en route to a 52-44 victory Wednesday night in the Class 6A boys basketball state tournament quarterfinals.
North Medford (22-5) will play Lakeridge in the consolation semifinals at 10:45 a.m. Thursday morning in an elimination game. The Pacers lost 66-40 to Jesuit earlier Wednesday.
Senior Tristen Holmes had 20 points and seven rebounds to pace the Black Tornado, which battled back-and-forth with the Rams despite going 1-for-15 from 3-point range. Junior Brian Schireman added eight points for North Medford.
Central Catholic (23-4) got 15 points from La’Mar Winston and 12 apiece by Xavier Hallinan and Ben College. The second-seeded Rams outrebounded seventh-seeded North Medford 29-15.
