Thomas pitches North Medford past Henley
Junior pitcher Sarah Thomas struck out 13 over five scoreless innings, boosting the North Medford softball team to a season-opening, nonconference victory on Thursday at North Medford High.
Thomas didn't allow a hit and walked three from the circle before being relieved in the sixth inning. She helped her cause with a run-scoring double.
“She had a phenomenal night,” said Black Tornado coach Mike Mayben. “She was hitting her spots and had good command of the zone.”
After Rylan Austin’s two-run single in the fourth inning gave the Black Tornado a 2-0 lead, Olivia Lethlean capped a six-run fifth with a two-run triple to right field. Tralene Kucera also had an RBI double to left in the frame for North Medford.
