Comets drop two games in Fresno tourney

FRESNO, Calif. — Crater dropped two games on the opening day of the Easter Baseball Classic in Fresno, Calif., Monday.

The Comets (0-6) lost 4-2 to Reedley and 2-0 to Fresno. There are 38 teams in the 46th annual event, which continues through Wednesday.

In the first game, Crater's Cavin Gillispie went 2-for-2, and Gunnar Asher plated a run with a sacrifice fly, scoring Jake Cartwright. Asher also had a double.

Pitcher Brady Roland took the loss, allowing two earned runs and seven hits while fanning five and walking two.

In the second game, the Comets were held to singles by Asher and Gillispie.

Crater plays Franklin at 1 p.m. today.

KLAMATH UNION 15, ROGUE RIVER 3 (6 inn.): At Rogue River, Klamath Union’s Gage Hamblin tossed a one-hitter in the nonconference affair.

Tyler Sakraida had a two-run double in a three-run third inning for Rogue River (1-4).

ROGUE RIVER 19, KLAMATH UNION 5 (5 inn.): At Rogue River, Rogue River scored 11 first-inning runs in the nonconference victory.

Teana Ring drove in three runs while Brittany Fredenburg drove in two and scored three for the Chieftains (3-1).

Rogue River pitcher Alyssa Sands struck out nine in five innings. She allowed five runs — three earned — on five hits and no walks.

Ring, Fredenburg, Laura Potter and Elly Molder all had two hits. Potter added a pair of RBIs.

COOS BAY — Andrew Mengershausen shot a 107 but the Rogue River boys golf team was incomplete during a tournament at Watson Ranch Golf Club.

On the girls side, Allyson Armstrong led Phoenix with a 125.
