Mustangs cruise to triumph

Medford pitcher Will Weaver frustrated opposing bats by throwing seven shutout innings while the Mustangs’ American Legion AAA baseball team methodically built a lead and picked up a 10-2 victory over the Corvallis Gerding Builders Marketmen at Harry & David Field Sunday.

Weaver threw just 67 pitches while allowing seven hits and two walks and striking out two.

The Mustangs’ Micah Brown finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI while Eric Carlson and Aaron Hutchinson both went 2-for-4. Carlson scored twice and Hutchinson drove in two runs.

Colton Westfall, who was injured for North Medford High in the Class 6A playoffs, made his debut for the Mustangs (11-4) by spelling Weaver in the eighth inning.

American Legion A

NORTH MEDFORD CLAIMS TITLE: At Corvallis, North Medford won the Summer Slam Tournament and improved to 12-1.

Larson Kindreich pitched a two-hitter with nine strikeouts and no walks in a 4-1 championship win over Sandy. He and Bennett Rodgers had the only hits for the Mavericks.

Larson Kindreich recorded three hits for North Medford in a victory over Corvallis earlier.

ASHLAND 9-17, G.P. DIGGERS 0-4: At Ashland, Shea Scott pitched a complete-game shutout in the opener and Ashland earned the sweep by posting 13 runs in the third inning at North Mountain Park.

Scott allowed just four hits and one walk and he hit one batter in the contest. He also fanned six.

TarQuin Daley went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs for the Pilots (6-2, 4-2 Area 4).

In the nightcap, the Pilots needed just five innings to take care of the the Diggers (1-11, 1-7 Area 4).

The Pilots’ Peyton Fuller finished 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles, two runs scored and two RBIs while Jesse Carroll went 3-for-3 as well with three runs scored.
