Driskell runs wild in Prospect win

PROSPECT — Roo Driskell was virtually unstoppable for Prospect in a Class 1A eight-man Mountain Valley League non-division football game Friday.

Driskell, a senior quarterback, accounted for 10 touchdowns as Prospect defeated Glendale, 74-50.

Prospect (2-1) spotted the Pirates a 14-0 lead but turned the game around quickly to take a 32-22 lead at the end of the high-scoring first quarter.

The Cougars built an insurmountable 62-28 advantage going into the fourth quarter.

The speedy Driskell rushed for 404 yards and eight touchdowns and passed for two more.

Jared Gaines, a junior wide receiver, caught a 23-yard TD pass from Driskell in the first quarter and Devin Sheile scored one of his two touchdowns on an 11-yard pass in the third quarter.

Prospect finished with 568 yards in offense, with 507 coming on the ground.

CHILOQUIN 60, BUTTE FALLS 42: At Chiloquin, Butte Falls junior quarterback Tyler Davis ran for three touchdowns and passed for three more in the Mountain Valley League non-division loss.

Davis rushed 15 times for 127 yards and was 9-16 passing for 249 yards and no interceptions.

NORTH EUGENE 29, PHOENIX 19: At Eugene, Phoenix’s Justin Knight ran for 111 yards and two scores but North Eugene got what it wanted through the air in the second half to rally and deal the Pirates their first loss.

The Pirates (2-1) led 19-15 at halftime, but Highlanders quarterback John Averill tossed two of his four touchdowns after the intermission. Averill finished 23-for-30 for 223 yards.

ST. MARY’S 41, GOLD BEACH 7: At Gold Beach, St. Mary’s defense wreaked havoc on Gold Beach while Jake Reynolds cruised in for two rushing touchdowns.

Crusaders linebacker Brady Robison had three sacks and forced a fumble which Graeden Bird returned for a touchdown. Tanner Smith scored defensively with a 20-yard interception return for St. Mary’s (2-1).

Reynolds rushed for 93 yards and Robison 69 for St. Mary’s, which racked up 275 on the ground.

CASCADE CHRISTIAN 47, PLEASANT HILL 8: At Pleasant Hill, freshman running back Caleb Jordan led Cascade Christian with three touchdowns during nonleague action.

Jordan finished with 150 yards on 22 carries, and quarterback Haiden Schaan was 16 of 28 for 229 yards, one touchdown and one interception for the Challengers (1-2).

Pleasant Hill (0-3) didn’t score until the fourth quarter.

BONANZA 41, ROGUE RIVER 22: At Rogue River, Derek Nelson scored a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns but Carson Merkley’s five-touchdown night (three passing, two rushing) powered Bonanza.
