Zamora sisters lead RVA past Challengers

The Rogue Valley Adventist girls basketball team added to their strong start Monday with a 50-33 win over visiting Class 3A Cascade Christian.

Guided by the Zamora sisters, the 1A Hawks pulled away in the second quarter.

“We did a really good job moving the ball around to get open, and we were just making layup after layup,” said RVA coach Marlene Slagle.

Freshman Savannah Zamora pulled down 11 rebounds. She paced the Hawks (5-1) with 13 points and added three steals.

Carli Zamora, a senior, contributed 11 points and eight boards while senior Ashton Petray had nine points, eight assists and seven steals.

RVA had only nine turnovers.

The Challengers (0-3) were led by Emily Stephens’ 11 points.

Boys Basketball

CASCADE CHRISTIAN 62, ROGUE VALLEY ADVENTIST 22: Chad Morse and Carson Cochran scored 15 points apiece to pave the way for host Cascade Christian.

Morse also grabbed nine rebounds for the Challengers (3-1), who picked up eight points and seven boards from Brandon Winter.

Trevor Haugen dropped in 11 points for the Red Tail Hawks (3-3).
