Several local teams in Subaru tourney

The three-day Southern Oregon Subaru Christmas Basketball Classic is set to begin Monday at Cascade Christian High.

The tournament for boys and girls teams wraps up on Wednesday.

The participants are Crater, Eagle Point, Phoenix, the Challengers, St. Mary’s, Santiam Christian, Harrisburg, Nyssa and Myrtle Point.

Last winter, the Crater girls capped an undefeated run in the tournament with a 59-41 victory over Mazama.

In that game, returners Destiny Fahndrich, Mallory Heard and Cheyenne Scott each tallied 11 points.

In the boys game, the Comets topped the Vikings, 56-52.

This year’s girls title game is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday at Cascade Christian High. The boys championship contest is at 7:30.

Consolation games begin Tuesday.

The games featuring local boys teams on Monday are Crater versus St. Mary’s at 3:15 p.m., Eagle Point versus Harrisburg at 4:45 p.m. and Cascade Christian versus Santiam Christian at 7:45 p.m.

In girls games, Phoenix takes on Eagle Point at 10:45 a.m. on Monday, Crater plays St. Mary's at 12:15 p.m. and Cascade Christian faces Harrisburg at 9:15 p.m.

The Crater girls finished in third place at last year’s Class 5A state tournament, while the St. Mary’s girls advanced to the 3A state semifinals before taking fifth.

The Nyssa boys advanced to last year’s 3A state quarterfinals.
