Schireman, Wolfe propel North past Tualatin

LAKE OSWEGO — Hot shooting by Brian Schireman and Tyren Wolfe in the second half carried North Medford to a 64-53 come-from-behind victory against Tualatin in the four-team Lakeside Classic boys basketball tournament at Lakeridge High Monday.

The Black Tornado (5-1) will play in the title game today at 6 p.m. against South Salem, a 65-48 winner over host Lakeridge.

North Medford trailed the Three Rivers League opponent 27-24 at halftime.

Schireman, a senior wing, scored 10 of his 14 points in the third quarter as the Black Tornado grabbed the momentum by outscoring the Timberwolves (2-5), 23-15.

In the fourth quarter, Wolfe broke loose for 11 of his game-high 16 points.

“We found a mismatch on the post-up and (Wolfe) took advantage,” said North Medford coach Scott Plankenhorn. “He was a lot more active and doing a little of everything.”

North got an important contribution from sophomore Kaison Faust, who scored a season-best 14 points on 7 of 7 shooting from the field. Faust also had six rebounds.

North shot 52 percent from the field and was 13 of 17 on free-throw shooting.

“We played a really sound second half,” said Plankenhorn. “We cleaned up some things on the defensive end. We were more patient to get to the spots where we had opportunities.”
