Wolfe key in North win over Sheldon

Tyren Wolfe seemed to be all over the place for North Medford in a Southwest Conference boys basketball game Friday.

The Black Tornado senior guard helped orchestrate a 64-56 victory over visiting Sheldon at the North Medford gym.

Wolfe scored 12 points to go with six rebounds, three assists and two steals.

“(Wolfe) had a nice line,” said North Medford coach Scott Plankenhorn. “He was doing a little bit of everything. And he played good defense against some of their better players.”

Brian Schireman scored 19 points to pace North Medford (12-3, 3-2 SWC). The senior guard was particularly clutch from the free-throw line by sinking 9 of 10 in the fourth quarter.

The Black Tornado grabbed a 30-15 halftime lead, then held off the Irish (10-5, 3-2) by connecting on 13 of 15 free throws in the final period. North was 23 of 27 from the line in the contest.

“We bounced back from the South Medford loss and played a good first half,” said Plankenhorn. “We took care of the ball and were sound on the defensive end.

“Free-throw shooting made sure we won the game,” added Plankenhorn. “Any time they made a push, we continued to make free throws.”
