RVA girls get defensive in MVL win

On average, the Rogue Valley Adventist girls basketball team is allowing the least points per game in the Mountain Valley League, and those efforts continue to pay big dividends for the Medford Class 1A school.

The Red Tail Hawks lowered their average points allowed to 23 for the season with another stifling effort Saturday in a 41-15 victory over visiting Trinity Lutheran.

“They played amazing defense,” said RVA head coach Marlene Slagle. “That’s probably some of the best defense we’ve played.”

Rogue Valley Adventist limited the production of 3-point threats Mariah Murphy and Emily Eidler for Trinity Lutheran, and the Red Tail Hawks (13-3, 7-1 MVL) responded with a balanced offensive effort to push past the Saints (8-6, 3-4).

Ashton Petray had 13 points, five rebounds and two steals to pace RVA, while Savanah Zamora added 11 points, seven rebounds and eight steals and Hannah Wood contributed eight points.

The Red Tail Hawks, who face a stiff test Tuesday at Hosanna Christian, led 10-0 through one quarter and 24-6 at halftime.

PROSPECT 44, CENTRAL CHRISTIAN 6: At Prospect, Baley VanWormer had 14 points and seven steals and Savannah Breiholz added 12 points for Prospect in the runaway Mountain Valley League win.

The Cougars (7-11, 2-7 MVL) led 20-0 after one quarter against winless Central Christian (0-12, 0-9).

TRIAD 47, BUTTE FALLS 44: At Butte Falls, Raleigh Weaver had 25 points and 18 rebounds and Katie Munsell contributed 11 points, five rebounds and four assists for Butte Falls in the Mountain Valley League loss.

The Loggers (6-10, 2-8 MVL) led for most of the contest until Triad (8-8, 4-4) took over in the final four minutes.
