Kindreichs lead North sweep of Crater

CENTRAL POINT — The Kindreich brothers took over on the mound for the North Medford baseball team Thursday in its season-opening doubleheader.

Both picked up a victory for the Black Tornado, which held Crater to seven hits to notch 9-3 and 8-3 victories at Anhorn Field.

In the opener, Larson Kindreich allowed three runs — one earned — on four hits, two walks and struck out three over six innings.

He was helped by Honus Kindreich’s 3-for-3 hitting with three runs scored and a pair of RBIs. Kacey Buchanan finished 3-for-4 and Barry Hunt 2-for-4.

Honus Kindreich was North Medford’s starter in the nightcap. He allowed three unearned runs on just two hits and fanned eight.

North’s Tate Cowden went 3-for-5 with a couple of RBIs in the nightcap, and Larson Kindreich went 3-for-3. Honus Kindreich and Greyson Wolff were each 2-for-4.

ASHLAND 9, SOUTH MEDFORD 8: Jesse Carroll went 3-for-3 and drove in four runs to give Ashland the edge over South Medford at Harry & David Field.

Carroll had a double, triple and scored once for the Grizzlies (2-0), who tallied six runs in the second inning. Peyton Fuller was 2-for-2.

The Panthers (0-1) received two hits and an RBI each from Cole Carder, Christian Mahoney, Jaalen Owens and Clint Campbell.

YREKA 11, PHOENIX 8: At Yreka, Calif., Phoenix came up with 12 hits walked 10 batters and lost in the first of three games in the Yreka Tournament.

James Turnbull went 2-for-3 — both hits were doubles — scored twice and stole a pair of bases for the Pirates (0-1).

Dorian Mobley and Colton Beer each went 2-for-4. Mobley had two RBIs and Beer drove in one and scored once.

HIDDEN VALLEY 9, CASCADE CHRISTIAN 1: Hidden Valley (1-0) took control with Zachery Morris’ two-run home run in the top of the fifth inning at U.S. Cell.

The Challengers (0-2) picked up their lone run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI groundout by Joey McLemore.

CASCADE CHRISTIAN 6, HIDDEN VALLEY 3: Cascade Christian had only three hits but capitalized on four Hidden Valley errors.

Allison McMahon’s RBI triple in the bottom of the Challengers’ three-run sixth inning put them up 4-1. The Challengers improved to 1-1.

ST. MARY’S 8, NORTH MEDFORD 0: St. Mary’s Pratheev Weerakoon dropped the opening game to North Medford’s Mason Pagnini but won out for a 6-1, 6-0 victory as the Crusaders (2-0) swept at Fichtner-Mainwaring Park.

Weerakoon joined forces with Ian Newton to pick up a 6-0, 6-1 triumph over Dylan Kenyon and Tyler Vistaunet.

NORTH MEDFORD 5, ST. MARY’S 3: Karina Ward and Brooke Costanzo needed to rally in their doubles match to boost host North Medford.

Ward and Costanzo, North’s No. 1 team, got the best of Chloe Phillips and Sabrina Miller, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2.

North Medford’s top singles seed Dhariane Pace outlasted Haley Ordal, 6-4, 7-5.

Girls Golf

CRATER INVITATIONAL: Crater’s team of Daniele Giles and Savannah Perkins was medalist in the two-player Crater Invitational, but Grants Pass won the team title at Centennial Golf Club.

Giles and Perkins birdied their final hole for an even-72. The teams played six holes each of scramble, alternating shots and best ball.
