Westview baseball denies Panthers

Although the South Medford baseball team was able to conjure some run support despite its troubles at the plate, it was not able to overcome one tough inning in the field on Friday at Harry & David Field.

The Panthers committed all three of their errors in the top of the fifth inning, leading to four runs for Westview in a 5-3 decision for the road team.

Westview starting pitcher Tristan Garnett limited South to just two hits in the game, but with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Panthers got something going facing the Wildcats’ 4-0 advantage.

South’s Jaalen Owens scored on a passed ball followed by another miscue involving Garnett when a wild pitch brought home Clint Campbell. Cole Carder polished off a three-run frame for the Panthers (0-2) with an RBI single to cut Westview’s lead to 4-3.

The Widlcats’ Jayden Hanna and Willie Weiss both went 2-for-3. Hanna scored twice and Weiss drove in two.
