Highlanders top Tornado in ninth
EUGENE — North Eugene’s Robby Alstrom and Jordan Rubin combined for a one-hitter and Brandon Hertz had the game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Highlanders edged North Medford, 2-1, in nonleague baseball on Friday.
Hertz’s hit came with two outs.
The Black Tornado (3-2) took a 1-0 lead in the second when Justin Guyer came home on a Berry Hunt fielder’s choice.
Larson Kindreich allowed three hits and one walk with eight strikeouts in seven innings against North Eugene (3-1).
North Medford’s only hit came in the fourth, when Kasey Buchanan singled.
“I thought we played well, but it was just tough-luck hitting,” North Medford head coach Brett Wolfe said. “We hit a few right at them.”
