Owens' triple sparks South over Roseburg

Jaalen Owens hit the game-winning triple with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning as the South Medford baseball team defeated Roseburg, 5-4, during Southwest Conference action at Harry & David Field on Tuesday.

Clint Campbell scored the winning run after he singled with one out for the Panthers (4-11, 3-7 SWC). Owens’ deciding hit went to right-center field, getting past a diving Roseburg center fielder to reach the fence.

Jacob Melton and Campbell were both 2-for-3 against the Indians (8-6, 7-3).

In the bottom of the sixth inning, South’s Cole Carder evened things at 4 with a two-out RBI single to left field. The single extended Carder’s hitting streak to nine games. A Roseburg error earlier in the inning drew the Panthers within a run.
