South dominates singles in dual triumph

South Medford swept the four singles matches and defeated Roseburg, 5-3, in Southwest Conference girls tennis Tuesday at South Medford High.

The Panthers’ top singles player, Kelsey Bartlett, defeated Roseburg counterpart Adrienne Powell, 6-1, 6-1. Other singles winners were Kali Curtis, Kinzlee Jordan and Kenadi Schultz.

After the No. 1 team of Abi Borg and Anna Johnson claimed their doubles match for South, 6-2, 4-6, (10-5) over Bailey Norlin-Pritchard and Ally Sandfort, the Indians notched three tandem wins.

NORTH MEDFORD 5, GRANTS PASS 3: North Medford won three of four singles in the SWC home match.

The Black Tornado needed a three-set victory from Zuri Molina and Ashlynn Hokanson in No. 4 doubles to clinch the victory.

ASHLAND 5, ST. MARY'S 3: Ashland won three of four doubles matches to win the nonconference match at St. Mary's.

The Grizzlies' No. 4 doubles team of Bianca Onesti and JD Miller fought back to beat Allie Buccino and Emily Elmore, 3-6, 7-6 (4), 10-2.

ROSEBURG 5, SOUTH MEDFORD 3: At Roseburg, South Medford picked up a pair of singles victories and a doubles win in the Southwest Conference dual.

The Panthers are 3-2.

ST. MARY’S 4, ASHLAND 4: At Ashland, St. Mary’s winning streak of 11 matches to start the season came to a halt in the in the nonconference match at Hunter Park.

A pivotal match came in No. 2 doubles, where Ashland’s Will Duncan and Eryl Keener lost the first set 6-3, then rallied for 7-6 and 10-7 wins over Quinn Randle and Jonas Glatte to force the tie.
