SWC-leading North sweeps Willamette

North Medford combined for 26 hits and got lockdown pitching from Sarah Thomas and Teanna Gonsalves to sweep Willamette, 14-0 and 13-1, in five-inning Southwest Conference softball games Wednesday.

North Medford junior Ashley Ripplinger helped lead the charge for the Black Tornado (16-1, 12-1 SWC) with a 5-for-8 showing with four runs and six RBIs in the doubleheader. Ripplinger pounded out her third home run of the season in the opener, ripping a two-run homer in the third inning against Willamette (1-16, 0-13).

The numbers were solid throughout the Black Tornado lineup, with all but one starter credited with a hit in Game 1 and all but two starters earning a hit in Game 2.

Taelor Mayben combined to go 4-for-6 with five runs and four RBIs, Olivia Lethlean was 3-for-6 with four runs and one RBI, Tra Kucera 2-for-6 with three RBIs, Gonsalves 3-for-5 with two runs and four RBIs.

Mahal Miles was 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI in Game 2, while Gabby Rosales was 1-for-3 with two RBIs in Game 1.

Inside the circle, Thomas struck out 11 and walked three with four hits allowed in seven innings pitched, while Gonsalves tossed three scoreless innings with three strikeouts and three hits allowed.

SWC-leading North Medford next takes on second-place South Medford (14-3, 10-3) in a doubleheader Friday that begins at 2:30 p.m. at South Medford High.

HENLEY 4, CRATER 2: At Klamath Falls, Simone Turituri’s two-run homer gave Crater a brief lead against host Henley in nonconference action.

Turituri followed McKenzie Ryerson’s fourth-inning single with a blast over the centerfield fence to give the Comets (9-9) a 2-1 lead.

Henley (14-3) scored two runs in the bottom of the frame to take the lead for good.

ROGUE RIVER 7-12, LAKEVIEW 4-10: At Lakeview, Rogue River collected 22 hits in the Southern Cascade League road doubleheader victory.

In the opener, Kobie Gibson and Sarah Smith provided the big bats for Rogue River (7-7, 3-1 SCL). Gibson rapped three hits and had four RBIs while Smith also had three hits and scored one run.

Marina Hall had three hits and scored three runs for the Chieftains in Game 2.

Cortney Hardy and Rose Valencia each added a pair of singles for Rogue River in the nightcap.

ST. MARY’S 17, GLENDALE 2, 5 inn.: At Glendale, St. Mary’s Joe Johnson hit a grand slam and Brady Robison added a three-run home run to pace the unbeaten Crusaders (20-0).

Jose Perez allowed two unearned runs on three hits with five strikeouts in four innings and was 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs. Johnson finished 2-for-2 with three runs and four RBIs, Robison was 2-for-4 with two runs and four RBIs, Travis Danielson 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs and Ben Robinson 3-for-3 with two runs.

LAKEVIEW 15-3, ROGUE RIVER 0-0: At Lakeview, Rogue River remained winless in the Southern Cascade League with a pair of shutout losses.

Cody Hamilton pitched a five-inning shutout in the opener for Lakeview (12-8, 3-3 SCL), which used a nine-run third inning to pull away early. Landen Lampman had a two-run hit in the third.

Lampman was 3-for-4 in Game 2 and outdueled Tyler Sakraida on the mound for Rogue River (1-12, 0-6). Austin Mahnke and Brandon Ridpath each went 2-for-3 in the nightcap for the Chieftains.
