Lancers take two from Comets

CENTRAL POINT — The Churchill softball team downed Crater, 6-1, in the opener and edged the Comets, 5-4, in Game 2 during Midwestern League action at Crater High on Saturday.

Tristin Fisher hit a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning of the nightcap to bring home Kaila Lee and cut the Comets' deficit to one before the Lancers recorded the final out.

Fisher finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Lee 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored and Mackenzie Ryerson 2-for-4 in Game 2. Avery Daniels hit a two-run home run for Churchill (16-3, 13-1 MWL), which has won seven straight.

Crater led 3-1 after the first inning of the nightcap before the Lancers rallied.

Sydney Beck went 2-for-4 and Ally Plankenhorn scored on an error after hitting a leadoff single in the opener for the Comets (9-11, 6-7).

SPRINGFIELD 10-7, ASHLAND 3-8: At Springfield, Gianni Pippa-Baker was 2-for-4 with three RBIs in Game 2 as Ashland earned its first Midwestern League win.

Pippa-Baker hit a two-run double in Game 2 for the Grizzlies (2-14, 1-12 MWL). Kara Hakes had an RBI single in the opener against Springfield (5-13, 5-7).

Brielle Doman was 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in the opener for the Cavers (11-9, 7-8 SWC).

Brooklyn Hurd finished 3-for-3 with three runs scored in Game 2 against the Indians (15-5, 11-4).

PHOENIX 11-7, NORTH VALLEY 10-16: At Talent, Phoenix’s Courtney Baker was 5-for-5 with six stolen bases and four runs scored, including the game-winner, in Game 1 of the Skyline Conference doubleheader at Hagler-James Park.

Tiona Hurd was 2-for-5 with three runs and three RBIs and Brooke Kentner 3-for-4 with three RBIs in the opener for Phoenix (4-12, 3-6 Skyline).

Kentner had a solo home run and joined McKenna Page in going 2-for-4 in Game 2, but North Valley (12-7, 5-4) scored 10 runs — all with two outs — in the seventh inning to rally.

CASCADE CHRISTIAN 29-37, ILLINOIS VALLEY 5-14: At Cave Junction, Cascade Christian sophomore Shaylee Ledesma earned both five-inning pitching wins and combined to go 7-for-9 with five extra-base hits and 13 RBIs in the Southern Cascade League twin bill.

Mallory Meilicke and Kelsey Bogue each went 6-for-9 with six RBIs apiece for the Challengers (14-1, 6-0 SCL), while Allison Winter was 7-for-9 with five RBIs.

PROSPECT 17-28, RIDDLE 0-5: At Prospect, Katie Munsell had 10 RBIs on the day and tossed a one-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts and one walk for Prospect during District 4 action.

Munsell was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and improved to 4-1 in the circle in the opener. Raleigh Weaver hit a two-run home run for the Cougars (10-6, 6-2 Dist. 4).

Munsell went 2-for-3 with seven RBIs, Theresa Ferguson finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Jordan Kuykendall added three RBIs against Riddle (2-14, 0-9) in Game 2.
