Crater’s Giles ties for first at district

HOOD RIVER — Crater's Daniele Giles tied for first place after shooting a Day 2 76 in the Class 5A District 2 regional golf tournament at Indian Creek Golf Course on Tuesday.

The top four teams and top 10 individuals qualified for the state tournament. Summit won the team title with 645 strokes, the Comets were second (698) and Pendleton third (707).

Giles and Pendleton's Haley Greb finished with a two-day total of 150. Crater's Kiana Oshiro (151) was third after carding a 74 on Tuesday.

Taylor Barats (198) led Ashland and Ryleigh Gainey (197) paced Eagle Point.

4A DISTRICT 3 REGIONAL: At Klamath Falls, Craig Ronne of Klamath Union fired a 10-under-par 134 to capture medalist honors and Marshfield won the team title in the nine-school tournament.

Marshfield posted a 669 team total and Klamath Union was second (695).

Phoenix, which finished last in the seven-team field with an 809, was led by Camden Chose, who shot a two-day total of 187. The Pirates’ Devin Wenaus finished with a 195. Complete team scores were not available as of press time.

Boys Tennis

DISTRICT 3 TOURNAMENT: St. Mary's top-seeded Pratheev Weerakoon won the Class 4A/3A/2A/1A District 4 singles crown after sweeping North Bend's Jacob Gage, 6-0, 6-0, in the finals at Fichtner-Mainwaring Park.

Weerakoon beat teammate Tyler West, 6-1, 6-2, in the semifinals. Hayden Lam of Klamath Union later defeated West, 6-2, 6-4, in the third-place match.

North Bend claimed the team title and the Crusaders were second.

In doubles semifinal action, North Bend's James Jordan and Stewart Lyons topped St. Mary's Ian Newton and Justin Hawkins, 6-0, 6-2. The Crusader combination later secured fourth after falling to Henley's Spencer Todd and RamRey Duran, 6-2, 3-6 (10-8).

All four St. Mary's players qualified for state, which is May 20-21 at Oregon State University.
