North downs South in SWC volleyball
South Medford could not overcome early deficits and fell to North Medford, 25-18, 24-26, 25-21, 25-19, in Southwest Conference volleyball at the Black Tornado gym Thursday.
North Medford’s Kiley Pauck pounded 11 kills with only four hitting errors and Karen Polataivao added 10 kills to go with five aces.
The Black Tornado (4-4, 1-0 SWC) received good backrow defense and passing from Taelor Mayben, Anna Lorenz and Gisselle Lyon.
For South Medford (0-4, 0-2), Mac Criswell had a strong all-around match with 35 assists, 18 digs and three aces. Alyssa Vaughn had 13 kills and 15 digs and served out the second set with seven straight points. Chanel Groom put down 10 kills and libero Jayda Willis had 18 digs for the Panthers.
ROSEBURG 3, GRANTS PASS 0: At Roseburg, Haley Dougherty had 16 digs and McKenna Musser 13 assists for Grants Pass in the 25-8, 25-10, 25-18 Southwest Conference loss.
Jenaya Wright added four kills and three blocks for the Cavers (8-2, 1-1 SWC). Roseburg is 3-0, 2-0 in league.
CRATER 3, NORTH EUGENE 1: At Eugene, Nehkyah Ellis went for 19 kills, eight digs and five aces and Rane Jensen 20 digs and three aces for Crater during Midwestern League action.
Sydney Gray had seven kills, Nicole Morse eight kills and 13 digs and Jadyn Carother five aces for the Comets (3-1, 2-1 MWL) in their 25-18, 25-16, 16-25, 25-19 victory over North Eugene (2-2, 2-1).
CASCADE CHRISTIAN 3, EAGLE POINT 0: At Eagle Point, Cascade Christian’s frontline dominated as the Challengers remained unbeaten with a 25-14, 25-11, 25-17 nonconference victory.
Claire Hawkins paced the Challengers (5-0) with eight kills and Caroline McMahon added six. Allison Winter had 23 assists and four aces.
For Eagle Point (0-4) Ryleigh Gainey came up with 13 digs and Emmalee Stevens and Aliah Darling each had seven digs.
ST. MARY'S 3, MAZAMA 1: At Klamath Falls, St. Mary's won the nonleague match, 25-17, 25-18, 26-28, 25-20.
Katie Rietmann had 10 kills and four blocks and Hallie Shean added six kills, 11 digs and three blocks for the Crusaders (2-4), who tallied 18 aces as a team.
PROSPECT 3, MILO ACADEMY 0: At Prospect, Baley VanWormer had a strong game hitting and serving to lead Prospect to a 25-18, 25-12, 25-12 nonconference victory.
EAGLE POINT 2, KLAMATH UNION 0: At Klamath Falls, Edgar Bravo and Brandon Silani scored first-half goals for Eagle Point in the nonconference road victory.
Goalkeeper Omar Escobedo came up with four saves, including two big ones in the first half, for the Eagles (2-2).
CRATER 2, KLAMATH UNION 0: At Klamath Falls, Gracen Hokenson scored on a first-half penalty kick and Makiah Palmer added a goal in the 66th minute as Crater registered its first victory of the season in the nonconference match.
The Comets (1-1-1) received 11 saves from goalkeeper Lauren Noyes and Jordan Peterson was a force in the midfield.
