Barry, Pauck propel Black Tornado

EUGENE — The North Medford volleyball squad served up 21 aces with seven coming in the final set in a 25-23, 16-25, 25-19, 25-14 Southwest Conference win over Willamette Thursday.

Taelor Mayben made four aces in the final set for the Black Tornado (5-6, 2-1 SWC), which made just three errors from the service line. She finished with five aces in the contest, as did setter Alex Barry, who turned in 37 assists and 10 digs.

Kiley Pauck chalked up 15 kills and Adriane McLemore had nine for North Medford.

Defensively, Anna Lorenz led the way for the Black Tornado with 19 digs and Ashley Ripplinger pitched in seven.

SHELDON 3, SOUTH MEDFORD 1: At Sheldon, South Medford got off to a slow start and couldn’t recover, losing the the Southwest Conference match 25-9, 26-24, 21-25, 25-20.

For the Panthers, Mack Criswell had 27 assists and 12 digs, and Megan Davis registered 20 digs and nine kills

CRATER 3, SPRINGFIELD 0: At Springfield, senior outside hitter Nicole Morse registered 12 kills, five aces and eight digs to guide Crater to a 25-15, 25-14, 25-17 Midwestern League triumph.

Senior middle hitter Makayla York added seven kills and three aces for the Comets (5-3, 3-1 MWL) while Nehkyah Ellis and Maya VanHook tallied five kills apiece.

ASHLAND 3, NORTH EUGENE 0: At Eugene, Ashland used its aggressive serving to keep North Eugene off balance, resulting in a 25-16, 25-18, 25-23 Midwestern League win.

Myla Norvell collected 10 kills, six aces and eight digs for the Grizzlies (3-3, 3-2 MWL) while Alex Crane went for 10 kills and three aces.

Grizzly libero Julia Senestraro chipped in 14 digs.

PHOENIX 3, MAZAMA 0: At Phoenix, Phoenix won the Skyline Conference opener, 25-15, 25-12, 25-9.

The Pirates improved to 4-5 overall.

CASCADE CHRISTIAN 3, ROGUE RIVER 0: In Southern Cascade League play, Cascade Christian won handly, 25-6, 25-6, 25-8.

Caroline McMahon notched seven kills and seven aces for the Challengers, and Alison Winter turned in 24 assists and five aces.

Karisa Waldron and Eeklyn Magee chipped in with five kills each for Cascade Christian (10-0,1-0 SCL).

HOSANNA CHRISTIAN 3, BUTTE FALLS 0: At Klamath Falls, Butte Falls jumped out to an early lead in Game 1 but ended up losing the Mountain Valley League match, 25-23, 25-14, 25-19.

The Loggers are 5-4 overall and 1-1 in the MVL.

RV ADVENTIST 3, CENTRAL CHRISTIAN 0: In its Mountain Valley League debut, Rogue Valley Adventist (2-2, 1-0 MVL) topped Central Christian, 25-20, 25-10, 25-18.
