Pirates coach Flenner gets 250th win

TALENT — Rosendo Juarez-Flores worked his magic all over the field Monday as Phoenix opened Skyline Conference play by helping coach Dennis Flenner capture his 250th victory in a 3-1 decision over Hidden Valley at Colver Field.

“When you get the kind of kids I get every year, it’s easy to be successful,” said Flenner, who’s 250-80-10 in 21 seasons at Phoenix. “It was his (Juarez-Florez’s) game today. It was nice to get our first league win off our chest.”

Juarez-Flores set up Zach Castillo’s goal from 25 yards out at the 14-minute mark to put Phoenix (2-2, 1-0 Sky) on the scoreboard. After Hidden Valley’s Mason Lindorf evened the score in the 42nd minute, Juarez-Flores answered four minutes later on an assist by Luis Ascencion to give the Pirates the lead for good.

Phoenix’s Jacob Jee scored on Juarez-Flores’ pass in the 57th minute.
