Comets claim Grants Pass tourney crown

GRANTS PASS — Five Crater wrestlers were crowned champions as the Comets captured the 31-school Grants Pass Winter Kickoff title at Grants Pass High on Saturday.

Crater finished with 269 points. Grants Pass (181.5) was second and Marshfield (167.5) third. Eagle Point (126.5) earned fifth.

The Comets’ Zeth Brower pinned Cascade Christian’s Ryan Vidlak in 3 minutes, 6 seconds, in the 106-pound championship.

Also for Crater, Hunter Grant (120) defeated Eagle Point’s Chance McMullen by decision, 4-2, in the finals; Dallas Howard (132) earned a 5-1 decision over Del Norte’s Willie Gensaw; Logan Meek (152) pinned Henley’s Martin Sierra in 4:32; and Beau Crawford beat James Pendleton, 3-1, in an all-Crater championship at 220.

Cascade Christian’s Gabe Vidlak (113) beat Grants Pass’ Barrett Titus by decision, 3-0, in their final.

Grants Pass’ Jordan Main (195) pinned Henley’s Justin Self in 3:04 in their championship match.

Crater’s Jace Godley (160) and Grants Pass’ Vincent Washington (138) and Trajan Hurd (170) lost in their championship duels.
