Panthers rebound, beat Santa Fe Christian

SOLANA BEACH, Calif. — Sophomore guard Ula Chamberlin had 29 points, seven assists, seven rebounds and four steals as the sixth-ranked South Medford girls basketball team defeated Santa Fe Christian, 85-68, during nonleague action on Saturday.

Senior Lauren Orndoff added 18 points, four assists and three steals and freshman Bella Pedrojetti recorded a career-high 18 points with four assists for the Panthers, who led 42-33 at halftime.

Jonnay Foote chipped in 10 points and eight steals and Hannah Washington, fighting foul trouble for much of the game, had eight points and 10 rebounds for South.

Chamberlin knocked down five 3s for the Panthers (3-2), who were coming off a 66-57 loss to La Jolla Country Day on Friday.

"I thought the kids had a tough game last night, but we bounced back and played with a lot more confidence today," South Medford coach Tom Cole said. "It was super encouraging. It's part of what comes with taking on a tough out-of-conference schedule.”

Junior Emma Dudley, daughter of former Portland Trail Blazer Chris Dudley, scored 22 points for Santa Fe Christian (7-2), which outrebounded South, 32-30.

The Panthers, who finished with 23 steals, play McNary (3-2) in their home opener Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.

CASCADE CHRISTIAN 63, SHERMAN 50: At Klamath Falls, senior Carson Cochran recorded a career-high 29 points on 12-for-15 shooting with 11 rebounds and Cascade Christian snapped Class 1A Sherman's 24-game winning streak at the Hosanna Christian Holiday Classic.

Joel McLemore had 11 points and Tyler Cochran 10 points and five assists for the Challengers (4-1). Sherman (3-1), which trailed 25-13 after the first quarter, went 26-4 overall and won the state championship last winter.

BUTTE FALLS DROPS TWO: At Butte Falls, the Illinois Valley junior varsity beat Butte Falls, 49-37, before the Rogue River JV topped the Loggers (0-6), 43-28, in the nonleague doubleheader.

Against Illinois Valley, Kadin Ault scored 13 points and Isaac Tirey and Katie Munsell had nine points each.

Ault went for 13 points and Tirey seven against Rogue River.
