Balanced scoring helps Eagles top Cougars

EAGLE POINT — Jax Bell led four players in double figures as the Eagle Point boys basketball team used its defensive pressure to stymie Illinois Valley in an 86-23 victory at Eagle Point on Thursday.

Bell dropped in 15 points and Joseph McHugh 13 for the Eagles (4-3) who capitalized on steals by getting out in transition.

The Eagles also picked up 12 points apiece from Jacob Nielsen and Levi Scott.

RV ADVENTIST 63, GLENDALE 39: Trevor Haugen amassed 30 points, 18 rebounds and six steals to power Rogue Valley Adventist past Glendale in nonconference play.

The Red Tail Hawks (6-1) picked up 14 points and four steals from Jared Cumbee.

LIBERTY 51, GRANTS PASS 35: At Hillsboro, Alyssa Etheridge and Paige Mahan scored nine points a piece in a nonconference loss for Grants Pass.

Clara Robbins tallied 17 points for Liberty (7-1), which lead 28-23 at halftime over the Cavers.

Grants Pass fell to 4-1 on the year.

ILLINOIS VALLEY 46, EAGLE POINT 44: At Eagle Point, Carlene Hart recorded 18 points as Eagle Point dropped a nonconference thriller.

Hart made a putback layup with 22 seconds left to tie the game at 44, but Illinois Valley’s Courtney Scott answered with a pair of free throws with 2.1 seconds left.

Tori Johnson scored 18 and Aundrea Miller 17 for Illinois Valley (5-2), which led 24-23 at halftime over the Eagles (0-6).
