Cascade Christian boys claim regional crown
Two-time defending golf state champion Cascade Christian captured the 3A/2A/1A District 4 regional tournament Tuesday at Bandon Crossings Golf Course.
Ben Quast led the way with an 81 in the second round and placed third overall with a two-day score of 155.
Oakridge’s Joel Snyder won with a 143, one shot ahead of Bandon’s Jackson Kennon.
Cascade Christian won by 26 shots over runner-up Oakridge.
Max Valle added an 84 for the Challengers, Ryan Collom 85 and Nash O’Hara 88.
The top three teams and top five individuals qualified for state Monday and Tuesday at Eagle Crest Resort in Redmond.

4A DISTRICT 3 REGIONAL: At Bandon, Klamath Union’s Craig Ronne won his third straight regional championship at Bandon Crossings Golf Course.
He led the Pelicans to the team title with a 2-under 70 and a two-day 142 total.
The top three teams and five individuals advanced to state Monday and Tuesday at Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis. Mazama and Henley tied for third, but Mazama won a tiebreaker to go to state.
Camden Chose paced Phoenix with a 91.

4A/3A/2A/1A DISTRICT 4 REGIONAL: At Bandon, defending 3A/2A/1A state champion St. Mary’s ran away with the championship and qualified for the state tournament Monday and Tuesday at Trysting Tree Golf Club.
It will be joined by runner-up Phoenix. The top two teams and top five individuals qualified for state.
The Crusaders’ dominant performance included the top three individual placers, led by medalist Staesha Flock, who followed her 74 on Day 1 with a 75 for a 149 total.
Teammate Kaylee Wu was second with a 163, and Kamryn Ford came in third at 172.
Phoenix’s Maricela Alvarado-Powers shot a 196 total and placed fifth overall.

4A/3A/2A/1A DISTRICT 3: St. Mary’s top-seeded singles and doubles players made it to the finals at Fichtner-Mainwaring Park but came up short of titles.
On the second day of the tournament, No. 1 singles player Pratheev Weerakoon defeated North Valley’s Jake McCafferty 6-0, 6-0, in the semifinals. The top tandem of Ian Newton and Quinn Randall downed North Bend’s Daniel Bennett and River Morse, 6-1, 6-2.
In the finals, North Bend’s Jacob Gage beat Weerakoon, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1.
Marshfield’s doubles team of Max and Josh Nicolaus upended Newton and Randall, 6-4, 5-7, 6-1.
North Bend won the team competition with 33 points, edging out St. Mary’s (28).
All the semifinalists qualified for the state tournament May 19-20 at Oregon State University.
