Munsell lifts Loggers in league tournament

BUTTE FALLS — Katie Munsell was unstoppable Monday for the Butte Falls softball team.

The senior ace, who helped her own cause with a first-inning home run, threw a no-hitter to go with 15 strikeouts in the host Loggers’ 7-0 victory over Chiloquin in the District 4 tournament.

Butte Falls (14-7) finished the regular season third in the conference and will next play at Lost River on Friday for playoff seeding.

Munsell, who gave up three walks, cleared the fence in deep centerfield with her two-run shot.

Jamie Byrum added a two-run double in the sixth inning for the Loggers.

BONANZA 8-6, CASCADE CHRISTIAN 6-4: Cascade Christian stranded runners on second and third base with two outs in the final inning both games as Bonanza came away with a pair of nonleague wins at U.S. Cellular Community Park.

The Challengers (15-7) left two aboard in the eighth inning after tying the game at 6-all with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Mallory Meilicke went 3-for-4 and had a two-run triple in the fourth inning and Allison Winter went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI for Cascade Christian.

In Game 2, the Challengers were unable to capitalize in the seventh with the tying runs in scoring position.

Winter finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Bryton Plankenhorn 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.
