Pirates shut out South Umpqua

TALENT — Carina Rodriguez connected on two goals for the Phoenix girls soccer team in a 5-0 nonconference victory over South Umpqua on Monday.

The Pirates (2-0) outshot South Umpqua, 28-4, as goalkeeper Marcella Badillo recorded three saves on her way to a shutout win.

Maggie Carrillo scored the Pirates’ first goal in the eighth minute and provided a pair of assists.

WILLAMETTE 1, GRANTS PASS 0: At Grants Pass, Ashley Guldager scored the game-winning goal in the 62nd minute during Southwest Conference action.

Grants Pass dropped to 2-1 overall, 1-1 in the SWC. Willamette is 1-1, 1-0 in league.

ROGUE RIVER 2, COQUILLE 0: At Rogue River, Rogue River picked up its first win of the season to improve to 1-1 overall.

Boys Soccer

ST. MARY’S 7, LAKEVIEW 0: St. Mary’s Will Kranenburg scored a pair of goals and the Crusaders led 4-0 at halftime during Southern Cascade League play.

Justin Silsbee, Weston Grant, Pablo Cortez, Andrew Rietman and Parker Lam all scored for the Crusaders (2-1, 2-0 SCL).

Luka Cvijanovic added two assists and goalkeepers Hunter Holdermann and Nathan Sternenberg combined for the shutout.

ROGUE RIVER 2, COQUILLE 0: At Rogue River, Garren Decker scored twice for Rogue River in the nonleague win.

Decker scored in the 23rd minute on a penalty kick then provided the Chieftains (2-0-1) some cushion in the 50th minute on an assist from Zyles Perryman.

Boys Water Polo

GRIZZLIES SWEEP: At Ashland, Ashland beat South Albany, 14-4, and topped Marist, 14-1, over the weekend at Ashland Family YMCA.

Against South Albany, Alex Dobry and Baylor Wiggins each had four goals and Chris Frownfelter added two goals, two assists and four steals. Goalkeeper Oliver del Rio made eight saves.

Against Marist, Dobry recorded five goals and Elijah Lasoff and Rileigh Orr added three goals apiece.
