North Medford netters sweep Roseburg

Kylie Pauck landed four aces in the third set, and the North Medford volleyball team was able to put Roseburg away for a 26-24, 25-20, 25-18 Southwest Conference triumph at North Medford High Thursday.

The senior outside hitter added eight kills, as did sophomore outside hitter Lauren Barry, who also registered 15 digs for the Black Tornado (11-5, 4-1 SWC).

Black Tornado senior setter Alex Barry racked up 23 assists and 20 digs, while sophomore middle Jenna Sandstrom went for four kills and gave the Indians (7-3, 4-2 SWC) fits at the net.

SOUTH MEDFORD 3, GRANTS PASS 1: Chanel Groom amassed 26 kills and 10 digs for South Medford, which earned its first Southwest Conference victory, 21-25, 25-12, 25-21, 25-17.

Senior setter Megan Davis recorded 26 assists, 20 digs, two aces and did not commit a service error for the Panthers (3-6, 1-4 SWC), who were superb from the service line.

The Panthers’ Maggie Hutto added eight kills, and Ashleigh Anderson chipped in four blocks and five assists.

ASHLAND 3, SPRINGFIELD 1: At Ashland, Grace Angermeier had 10 digs, 29 assists and four aces as Ashland won the Midwestern League match, 25-22, 24-26, 29-27, 25-11.

Also for Ashland (3-6, 3-3 MWL), Emily DeVall had 11 kills and four aces, Alex Crane nine kills, Sydney Philpott 19 digs and Bella Sallee four aces.

PHOENIX 3, HIDDEN VALLEY 0: At Phoenix, Hidden Valley’s used a fast-paced offense to claim a 25-11, 25-21, 25-9 Skyline Conference victory.

The Pirates (5-6, 2-1 Sky) received nine digs and a pair of aces from Abigail George and five kills, eight assists and five digs from setter Sophia Tringalo.

LAKEVIEW 3, ST. MARY'S 2: At Lakeview, Lakeview came back from a 13-11 deficit in Game 5 to win a wild Southern Cascade League match, 26-24, 17-25, 25-22, 21-25, 16-14.

St. Mary's (2-9, 1-1 SCL) junior Hallie Shean had 18 kills and was 14 of 16 serving. Sophomore Natalie Thickett added seven kills and was 21 of 23 serving with three aces. Thickett served five straight points, with three aces, to close out Game 2.

Junior Katie Rietmann had five blocks, five kills and nine digs, and sophomore Ashley Gurr notched 26 assists and six kills and was 104-for-106 setting.

ILLINOIS VALLEY 3, ROGUE RIVER 0: At Rogue River, Illinois Valley won the Southern Cascade League match, 25-16, 25-18, 25-20.

Rogue River dropped to 0-3 in league and 3-4 overall.

Boys Soccer

NORTH VALLEY 1, PHOENIX 0: At Phoenix, North Valley’s Blake Brown scored in the 29th minute, then the Knights fended off the explosive Pirates in the Skyline Conference game.

Phoenix (1-1-2, 1-1 Skyline) had edges of 18-9 in shots and 6-2 in corner kicks.

Girls Soccer

SOUTH MEDFORD 4, SHELDON 2: Ula Chamberlin scored twice in the first four minutes for South Medford in a match that had five goals scored in the first 20 minutes.

Sheldon knotted the score at 2-all in the 15th minute before Sandra Villa banked one off the post and into the net to put the Panthers (3-1-1, 2-0-1 SWC) up for good in the 20th minute.

Toni Coleman added a late-second-half goal for the Panthers.

CRATER 11, EAGLE POINT 0: At Central Point, Gracen Hokanson had three goals and three assists and Izabella Martinez three goals and two assists for Crater in the nonconference match.

Eden Trujillo added a hat trick for the Comets (2-2), and Emily Brock and Ayden Wycoff each had goals. McKenna Gugliotta notched two assists.

Eagle Point is 1-2-1.

NORTH VALLEY 10, PHOENIX 1: At Merlin, Lillian Mejia knocked in the lone goal for Phoenix (2-2, 0-2 Skyline Conference) as host North Valley was simply too much for the Pirates.
