Hot start propels Grants Pass past Glencoe

GLENCOE — Grants Pass jumped out to a commanding halftime lead and held on to defeat Glencoe 51-39 on Tuesday in the opening round of the Class 6A state playoffs.

Ahdra Klingler, a junior guard, finished with a game-high 18 points and Alyssa Etheridge, a senior forward, scored nine of her 13 points in the first quarter for the Cavers (16-9), who led 33-15 at the break.

Junior guard Ayla Klingler added 11 points for Grants Pass, the No. 18 seed in the 32-team tournament.

The Cavers advanced to the second round of the tournament, in which they will play Friday against the second-seeded Tigard Tigers (22-3), the undefeated champion of the Three Rivers League and a 59-29 winner over Sunset in the opening round.

Junior guard Morgan DeBord had 12 points and senior guard Ezinne Egbo scored 11 for the No. 15 seed Crimson Tide (14-10).
