Watts goes off as Phoenix splits

Brennen Watts had six hits, including three home runs, on the day to help Phoenix score 24 runs, but the Pirates had to settle for a nonleague split after Brookings-Harbor scored three runs in the seventh to take Game 2.

Phoenix jumped out to an 8-0 lead through four innings en route to a 10-4 win in Game 1 before falling 15-14 in a wild nightcap.

Watts went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and four runs in the opener and 3-for-5 with five RBIs and four runs in the second game for Phoenix, which is 2-2.

In the opener, Phoenix’s Chase Courtney went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs, as eight of the Pirates’ got at least one hit apiece from eight of nine starters.

In the second game, Kevin Botermans, Mason Stella, Chase Courtney and Dylan Knudson had two hits apiece for the Pirates, with Knudson driving in three runs and Stella two.

KLAMATH UNION 5, CASCADE CHRISTIAN 4: At Klamath Falls, Jacob Bowman hit a single in the second to bring home the go-ahead run from second and Klamath Union held on for the nonleague victory.

Cascade Christian (0-4) tied the game in the fourth, when Elijah Smith hit a leadoff single, stole second and third, and scored on a passed ball to make it 4-4.

Kyle Reece went 2-for-4 and scored twice to lead the Challengers.

Izak Peterson hit two doubles for the Pelicans (1-1).
