Shopp, Eagles stymie Springfield

EAGLE POINT — Riley Shopp dominated in the circle and her teammates made the most of eight hits in an 8-0 Midwestern League softball victory over Springfield Tuesday.

The Eagles improved to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in league.

Shopp, a sophomore right-handed pitcher, limited the Millers to two hits and struck out 12 batters in six innings. She walked four.

Miyah Smith pitched the seventh and recorded another strikeout.

The Eagles scored three in the third and four in the sixth.

Sam Thompson had two hits and three RBIs. Her two-run double was the big hit in the sixth.

Ashley Oppelt belted a three-run double in the third.

Springfield is 2-6 and 0-3.

NORTH MEDFORD 21, SOUTH EUGENE 0, 5 inn.: At Eugene, Chelby Smalley paced North Medford’s 22-hit onslaught by going 4-for-4 with a triple and six RBIs in Southwest Conference play.

The Black Tornado (8-2, 3-0 SWC) scored five runs in the second inning and eight in the third.

Lauren Barry, Alex Barry and Rylan Austin each had three hits for North. Lauren Barry tallied four runs and two RBIs, and Alex Barry had three runs and three RBIs. Austin reached base in all four at-bats, scoring once herself and watching her courtesy runner, Kyleigh Lopez, cross the plate the other three times.

Austin (8-1) pitched four shutout innings for the win over the Axemen (4-7, 2-2).

SHELDON 9, SOUTH MEDFORD 2: At Eugene, Camille Leach went 4-for-4 at the plate and tossed a complete game in the circle, and Jordan Henderson hit a grand slam to lead Sheldon.

Cassie Fleming had a triple and an RBI and Cassidy Clark drove in a run for South Medford (2-6, 0-2 SWC).

Henderson’s third-inning homer gave the Irish (10-2, 2-2) an 8-0 lead. Leach had an RBI and held the Panthers to four hits.

Kuykendall went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored, and Gaiter went 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

Brooklyn Hurd, Halleigh Noga and Hailey Yount each had a double for the Cavers (8-1, 4-0 SWC).

Ashley Bitikofer had the lone hit for Willamette (3-8, 0-4).

Doerr was 3-for-3. In a 10-run third inning, she hit a two-run homer and two-run single for the Spartans (8-2, 4-0 MWL).

Crater (3-8, 2-2) got doubles from Kaila Lee and Presley Robison among its three hits.

Ashland’s Nur Shelton won the No. 1 singles match 6-0, 6-0 over Jimmy Barringer.
