Crater’s Fisher wins thrice in three-way meet

EAGLE POINT — Crater’s Cody Fisher won three individual events — two throws and a jump — to highlight a three-way Midwestern League track and field meet that included host Eagle Point and Ashland Tuesday.

Crater won the boys and girls team titles with 67 and 74.5 points, respectively.

Fisher, a junior, captured the shot put with a throw of 43 feet, 4 inches, and the discus with a mark of 139-0. He triple-jumped 38-4 for his third victory. The shot and triple jump marks were personal bests.

Ashland’s Arlo Davis was the only other boy to win multiple events, taking the 800 (2:08.30) and 1,500 (4:17.70) meters.

In the girls meet, Crater was led by Maya Van Hook and Emily Thomason. Van Hook garnered wins in the 100 (13.26 seconds) and long jump (15-10), and Thomason triumphed in the pole vault (10-6) and triple jump (30-11).

Eagle Point’s Andrea Flores captured the 200 (28.75) and high jump (4-10).

BOYS TEAM SCORES: Crater 67, Eagle Point 57.5, Ashland 53.5.

GIRLS TEAM SCORES: Crater 74.5, Ashland 47.5, Eagle Point 43.

Boys Tennis

SOUTH MEDFORD 7, NORTH MEDFORD 1: South Medford top seed Elliot Hikade won his match, and Jay Panchal and Caleb Buckman teamed to win at No. 1 doubles at Fichtner-Mainwaring Park.

Hikade upended North Medford’s Kevin Kuhn, 6-2, 6-2, while Panchal and Buckman got the best of Drew Burnett and James Harris, 6-2, 6-0.

Girls Tennis

SOUTH MEDFORD 6, NORTH MEDFORD 2: North Medford senior Sydney Brubaker dropped the first set in No. 1 singles against Koral Rechberg, then rallied to win a tiebreaker, but host South Medford ended up splitting the four singles matches and sweeping all four doubles matches to capture the Southwest Conference match.

Rechberg raced to a 6-1 victory in the opening set but Brubaker came back for a 7-5 and 10-8 tiebreaker victory.

South’s Maddie Day and Becca Newell fell in the first set 6-4, then edged Yoslyn Ortiz and Karina Ward 6-4 and 10-8 in No. 1 doubles.
