Hoffman paces Challengers in all-state honors

Cascade Christian senior Ethan Hoffman swept the top kicking honors and was joined by three fellow Challengers on the Class 3A football first-team all-state list voted on by the state’s coaches.

Hoffman was named first-team placekicker and first-team punter after a season in which he averaged 40.6 yards per punt, landing 12 inside the 20-yard line, and went 5-for-12 on field goals with a long of 43 yards. Hoffman also converted 56 of 60 point-after attempts.

Also earning first-team acclaim was senior receiver John Fralich, who had 47 receptions for 834 yards and 11 touchdowns to help the Challengers return to the 3A state title game for a second straight season. Senior offensive lineman Logan Flenner also was named to the first team after anchoring his team in the trenches, while junior Kiegan Schaan was a first-team pick as a defensive back thanks to his 69 tackles and seven interceptions.

Schaan was also named to the second team at quarterback and was joined on the second grouping by senior Luke Smith (running back and linebacker), senior Spencer Weeks (offensive line), senior Cole Ferguson (defensive line) and senior Ian Fralich (defensive back).

St. Mary’s junior Cobey Aldrich earned a spot on the second team at tight end, while junior teammate Trevahn Foster was a second-team selection at defensive line.

The Crusaders also had five honorable mention nods in senior Gavin Rajagopal (running back), senior Alex Heycke (split end), senior Aiden Young (offensive line and linebacker) and junior Nate Thickett (offensive line and defensive line).

Rainier senior quarterback Joey Tripp was named 3A offensive player of the year, while Nyssa senior linebacker JoJo Sanchez earned 3A defensive player of the year and Rainier junior Easton Crape was named 3A lineman of the year. Rainier’s Mike King was named 3A coach of the year.
